Reasons to start with a Public Cloud

A very common phrase regarding Cloud is that “Its not question of ‘If’ but its question of ‘When’ and ‘How'”. Once organisations decide for cloud adoption, there are many questions that need to be answered and many options to choose from. Do we start building cloud in-house? Do we host on a public cloud? Which applications are ideal first candidates for cloud migration?

In this post, lets look at some of the very common reasons to choose a public cloud. Below are some of the reasons

Low upfront investment

Hosting on a public cloud doesn’t call for high or any capital expenses. This is very useful since you don’t have to undergo cumbersome investment approvals and other processes. Many organisations understand the need to adopt cloud and also agree to the potential benefits that it can bring but not all are committed towards required investment even in proof of concepts.

Available options

Public cloud offer a variety of solutions to choose from which may not be feasible to develop in-house or on a private cloud. Various technologies and models are available. The key lies in knowing what you exactly need and selecting the right solution.

Less Risky

Things can and will go wrong in a real world. If you have chosen a wrong solution / option from a public cloud provider, all you have to do is to change it. However, what if you decide to build a private cloud and you discover that you are wonrg? Hence, trying out public cloud may be less risky in early phases of cloud adoption.

In-house Skillset deficiency

Developing the required skillsets to build and manage a cloud in-house is a time consuming task. It may take quite some time to develop skills to build a team of experts. When using services from a public cloud provider, it may not be an immediate necessity to develop skills in-house.

Least time to market

Concepts can be tested using services & solutions from public clouds as and when required. All that is required is to know which public cloud provider offers the solutions / services you need.

Pay only for what you use

You need to pay only as per your usage or whatever is the minimum criteria.

Public Cloud experts
